“PIN-solutions in connection with electronic functions of ID cards”

The ID cards of the new generation are increasingly equipped with chip applications for electronic identification processes. The key words here are E-government and electronic signature. In the financial sector, a PIN-based authentication system has been implemented. All ID-cards which are equipped with the feature of electronic signatures, need to be equipped with a PIN which is stored in an applet in the chip. The presentation gives information about the question whether PIN-based authentication systems will also find their way in the ID sector and also introduces all the different security levels and procedures for PIN solutions. For example, the new German ID card will contain PIN-solutions.
