Project Leader for Mexican ID Impl. – Talleres Graficos, Mexican Gov. Sec.

Speaks at ID WORLD on Emerging Countries

Carlos Acevedo Chaparro is project leader for the new Mexican ID – a further challenge for Talleres Gráficos de Mexico (TGM) as a decentralized public organization belonging to the Interior Ministry in the Government of Mexico.

In this role, Carlos Acevedo Chaparro has been involved in security technology research and prototyping for proof of identity and, consequently, in the implementation of a sufficient production capacity to manufacture 90 million cards, all at a low cost.

As Graphic Designer with Diploma in Business Administration and Marketing, Carlos Acevedo Chaparro is specialized in the digital technologies implied in the graphic arts: design, pre-press, press and media. The main expertise lies in the direction of new projects and implementation of new technologies in traditional environments (analogue methods to digital methods).

“The new Mexican National ID card”

Talleres Gráficos de México was assigned to carry out the biggest ID project in Latin America in order to process and print more than 90 million ID cards for the government of Mexico.

The presentation deals with the history of the Mexican ID card and explains the basis of decision for the current card body type. Furthermore, it describes the decision of the Interior Ministry, by the “Renapo” (acronym in Spanish which means National Population Register), to carry out the production and personalization through Talleres Gráficos de México. In another step, the design of the ID card as well as the security features are described. The whole production process as well as the implementation of the card factory will be presented.
