Dan Butnaru holds a degree in Electrical Engineering and Control Theory from Darmstadt University of Technology (TH Darmstadt, Germany). He is Product Manager for KEYNECTIS and in charge of digital ID solutions for Industry, e-ID and e-Passport product lines.
Dan joined KEYNECTIS in 2007 as Pre Sales Engineer and has been previously working for Gemalto from 1996 until 2007. He has been occupying various positions in R&D, Marketing and Business Development, particularly in the field of cryptographic smart cards and IT solutions.
Prior to Gemalto, Dan was R&D engineer in Amadeus Development Company, Sophia Antipolis (France), in the Fare Quote Department.
Dan Butnaru is German citizen living in France since 1994 and speaks fluently German, English, French and Romanian.
“ID management in the cloud – Protecting e-ID and e-gov with security as a service”
e-ID initiatives gain momentum in Europe and all over the world. Governments seek not only to provide the best possible protection of citizen identification data, but also are looking for optimized deployment schemes.
Besides these sheer logistics oriented issues, another main challenge represents e-Government, meaning the in-the-field applications based on e-ID cards.
The rise of Cloud Computing can facilitate and accelerate the Nation’s ROI. Digital IDs can be generated by one service provider and used by another for production and personalization of electronic ID cards. The latter are hence used by on-line applications like tax declarations, application forms, digital signature, etc.
On the other hand, protecting digital IDs and yet offering a large, open and user friendly spectre of applications can be considered an unsolvable equation.
However, within a “Cloud” implementation approach one can define and implement a set of general PKI services that can be easily integrated in all kind of e-Government use cases.
As in a distributed system, typically characterized by the Cloud Computing methodology, where service providers are widespread, security is a key element to successful project realization.
PKI brings in all security services like authentication, encryption and signature that are needed to manage digital IDs globally.
This speech lists and describes all relevant security services and demonstrates how, based on a SaaS model, PKI can improve cost reduction and increase the ROI.
