Healthcare Innovation

Near Field Communication (NFC) technology is being mooted as a way forward for ID and information transfer in the healthcare arena, alongside smart cards. Short time frames for providing availability of patient data in hospitals are crucial for quick and responsive healthcare.

How can smart cards interact with NFC tags to hold encrypted medical information? Can the necessity for ubiquitous network access and exact positioning be avoided? Is this the answer for care facilities without modern communication infrastructures? Where else does NFC have a role to play in healthcare?
