ID Trail Blazer Award

The Trail Blazer Award is assigned to the person who is helping the ID Community envision what will happen in the coming generations.

The five candidates are:

Gilles Lisimaque

Carl Brown
President, SimplyRFID

For his methodical and patient presence with 3,000 customers resulting in the implementation RFID in companies that had no concept of its benefits. By getting out there and installing systems, he has done more than any PR or Facebook presence can do to get the industry established and looking forward. He is a trailblazer because his direct installations have built a momentum to understand and envision forward thinking uses as companies get a Hands-On experience with RFID.

Prof Anil K. Jain
Michigan State University MSU

For his development of unique tattoo matching technology for the corrections and law enforcement communities to have the capability to accurately and efficiently search tattoo image databases to identify suspects, criminals and victims. He is an internationally recognized leader in biometrics and pattern recognition research and has also recently licensed cutting-edge software that detects altered fingerprints.

Gilles Lisimaque
Partner/Director, IDentification Technology Partners

For being one of the leading US experts on smart cards and application of smart cards, working on various US government projects as technical advisor and smart card standard expert. Prior to joining IDTP, he worked at Gemplus, a company he founded with four other co-founders, until 2002. He has been Member of Industry Advisory Board of Solicore since 2007. He holds multiple patents on smart card security and smart card OS design and has high level seats with numerous forums and associations.

Zbigniew Sagan
CTO, Advanced Track & Trace

For his work in security and fraud detection effectiveness to optimize the resources allocated for anti-counterfeiting measures and in particular, for pioneering a digital approach to physical authentication – Seal Vector Technology (STAMPS). He has also recently been involved in effectiveness analysis surrounding the Codentify system, with which some of the major tobacco manufacturers are proposing to replace paper tax stamps. Zbigniew Sagan actively participates in the AFNOR consortium working on the future ISO 12931 standard for anti-counterfeiting as well as in the ISO “Fraud Countermeasures and Controls” committee.

Peter Went

For playing a pivotal role in commoditizing large identification deployments in a growing variety of markets and applications both in the government and private sector markets. With the introduction of the Elise platform in the ID market, Peter Went has revolutionized the ID market in several ways. Firstly, by integrating multiple modalities, speed and accuracy of biometric identification has improved substantially. Secondly, by offering an industry strength platform, tier-2 vendors were able to deploy their technology in large scale systems. As a result, thirdly, competition was able to grow and price points to come down.
