M.S.Srikar belongs to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) which is the premier Civil Service of the Government of India. In his 11 years of public service, he has served in many capacities in the federal and State Government. He has served in remote areas of India as District Magistrate and has worked in the City Corporation of Bangalore. The Civil service in India offers experience in working in diverse sectors like law and order management, conduct of election, disaster management, land records management and implementation of various social sector programs.
In his present assignment he works in the office of Mr.Nandan Nilekani, Chairman, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) as his Private Secretary. He has been currently involved in the conceptualisation and implementation of the ambitious UID project in India right from the stage it was launched in August 2009.
“The Unique Identification Project in India – the road ahead”
The presentation would dwell on the Unique Identification project that has been launched in India by the Government of India in 2009. It would trace the genesis of the project as well as the status of the project so far with major milestones that have been achieved. The major challenges that have been faced in the implementation of the largest biometric project in the world will be discussed. The presentationn will also highlight the inclusive potential that the project has in terms of identity and development for the people of India.
