“The role of substrates in ID card bodies: durability, costs and security”
The world of ID has two sides: one is visible and one invisible, such as the software and the wireless technology. In this presentation we focus on the visible part, i.e. the card body. The card body holds the chip, the antenna, the holograms and the photo, but what do we know about the card body? We will analyze the different substrate materials, their performance in terms of processability, durability, costs, environmental impact, market availability, and also security. Can the substrates make the card non-clonable? What solutions are best for anti-counterfeiting? Advantages and drawbacks of PC, PETF, PVC, and PLA.
