Pier Luigi Foschi

CEO – Costa Crociere

Speaks at ID WORLD on Wireless Identification

Pier Luigi Foschi is the Chairman and CEO of Costa Crociere S.p.A. Since April 2003 he is member of the Board of Directors of Carnival Corporation & Plc. and, as an Executive Director, he is responsible for all Carnival’s brands in Continental Europe (Costa Cruises, AIDAcruises and Iberocruceros). Pier Luigi Foschi is also Vice-Chairman of Confitarma, the federation of Italian ship owners, and Former Chairman and founder of the European Cruise Council, an organization consisting of Europe’s main cruise companies. In 2007 he was listed in the “Club 33” the list of the 33 most important and influential people in global travel industry published by American Travel Weekly magazine. In June 2010 he has been appointed “Knight of the Italian order of merit for labour” by the President of the Italian Republic.

He joined Costa Crociere as CEO in October 1997, and took over the role of Chairman on 27 January 2000.

Foschi, aged 63, born in Milan, has taken over the leadership of Costa Crociere after a long and prestigious international experience at OTIS Elevator Company, the world leader in the elevators and people moving equipment. OTIS is a company of United Technologies Corporation (UTC) one of the largest global company in the USA. At OTIS Foschi covered increasingly important roles since 1974. In 1990, after working in Italy and France, Foschi moved to Hong Kong and then to Singapore as Executive Vice President of the OTIS Asia-Pacific operations, with operational responsibility for 14 countries, from Mongolia to Australia, from India to Japan. During that period he lead an organization employing more than 18,000 employees with overall revenue of 1.8 billion dollars.

Amongst the few Italian senior managers to have reached key positions at international level in global companies, Pier Luigi Foschi speaks English and French fluently and specialised at INSEAD in Fontainebleau (France) after completing his economic-financial education.
