“From identification to diagnostics – a logical journey”

PositiveID Corporation, which develops and markets unique medical devices, focused primarily on diabetes management, and rapid medical testing products, is the first and only company with an FDA-cleared RFID implantable microchip for patient identification – the VeriChip. In his presentation, Mr. Silverman discusses PositiveID’s history and its journey from a company focused on identification technologies for patients and other healthcare applications, to a disease management company focused on diagnostics and medical devices in a rapidly growing market. PositiveID’s evolution is based on a patent it received for an embedded bio-sensor on the end of an RFID chip. Using this intellectual property, PositiveID is complementing its roots in RFID to develop a glucose-sensing microchip called the GlucoChip™, to take an in vivo glucose reading and transmit that reading via RFID technology to an external scanner. PositiveID is also currently developing other diabetes management products including the Easy Check™ breath glucose detection device, and the iglucose™ wireless communication device for logging glucose readings for improved diabetes management.
