Biographies of the Members of the Technical Committee

Joseph E. Krull
Senior Manager, Security
Mr. Joseph Krull joined Accenture Government Services in 2005. Prior to Accenture, he was made Project Executive for Virtual Corporation and Founder/Principal of Krull Security Consulting. From 2000 – 2004, Mr. Krull served as a senior consultant to Israeli start-up companies and led efforts to develop and promote cutting edge security and wireless products. Mr. Krull is a highly decorated former military officer, diplomat and military attaché assigned to the United States Defense Intelligence Agency from 1978-1996.

Scott R. Silverman
Applied Digital Solutions
Mr. Scott R. Silverman was named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in March of 2003 after having served as a special advisor to the Board of Directors since August 2001. In March 2002, he was appointed to the Board of Directors and named President. From September 1999 to March 2002, Mr.Silverman operated his own private investment-banking firm.

George Reynolds

Avery Dennison
Mr., Reynolds is vice president of worldwide sales and marketing for Avery Dennison’s RFID division, which has been identified as a major strategic focus for the corporation. Prior to assuming this leadership role at Avery Dennison, Mr. Reynolds was vice president of Tyco Fire & Security’s RFID business. At Tyco, he previously provided global oversight of the company’s Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) business during the critical period of integrating Sensormatic Electronics Corporation’s operations into Tyco

Tony Revis
General Manager
Extech Instruments
Mr. Tony Revis is the General Manager of the Data Systems Division of Extech Instruments which designs, manufactures and markets small, lightweight, battery-operated, portable receipt printers for mobile computing applications. He directs Design, Engineering, Manufacturing and Service as well as Sales and Marketing. Previously, Mr. Revis was President of the North American subsidiary of Psion. Tony holds a B.S. degree in Chemistry as well as an M.B.A.

Dr. Joseph J. Atick
President & CEO
Dr. Joseph Atick has been at the forefront of some of technology’s most significant breakthroughs over the last fifteen years. In 1994, he co-founded Visionics, a leading developer of facial recognition technology and steered it through a successful merger with Digital Biometrics, A year later, Dr. Atick led the merger of Visionics with Identix, a leader in fingerprint identification.

Gerhard Pölz

Gerhard Pölz has been Managing Director of the Interflex Datensysteme GmbH & Co. KG since September 1, 2003. Before that, he was responsible for the company’s sales management. Since the beginning of 2005, Gerhard Pölz is Vice President Integrated Systems Solutions ESA and responsible for the solution marketing in the business with direct customers at Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies throughout Europe, he also coordinates all business activities abroad and any future expansion on the European market.

Dr. Toni Merschen
Group Head, Chip Centre of Excellence
MasterCard International
Dr. Toni Merschen is responsible for managing all business and technology aspects, development and deployment of chip-based business solutions for MasterCard’s global Advanced Payment Solutions department. He is responsible for developing, coordinating and executing MasterCard’s chip strategies and tactics on a global basis. Prior to joining MasterCard International, Dr. Merschen was head of Citigroup’s global competence centre for chip card-enabled solutions, mobile financial services, PKI, and biometrics. Previously, while working for IBM, he had worldwide responsibility for their R&D activities and strategic alliances for smart card technology and solutions.

Dr. Michael Meyer
Head of Electronic Health Card Business Germany
Siemens AG
Dr. Michael Meyer is responsible for the electronic health card business of Siemens AG in Germany since January 2006. Dr. Meyer studied business administration at the University of Hamburg, where he received his doctor’s degree in 1987. As of 1984 he worked as an assistant teacher at the university and as a trainer and consultant in two international consulting firms. His initial function with Siemens AG was in strategic marketing. This was followed by various senior positions in domestic and international sales.

Martin George
Smart Sensors Limited
Martin George is CEO of Smart Sensors Limited, which has worked with Professor Don Monro at the University of Bath, England, to develop new algorithms for iris biometrics, and to research some of the human factors issues around their successful use across all population groups. Martin also provides systems and strategy consulting through ID Craft, specialising in the commercial, human factors and operations impact of ID technologies, including TV image processing, RFID, smart cards and biometrics used in identity determination, protection and tracking applications.

Christer Härkönen
Senior Vice President
UPM Raflatac
Mr. Christer Härkönen is Senior Vice President of UPM Raflatac RFID business. Before joining the company he held various management positions at Elcoteq, a global electronics manufacturing services company. During 2000-2004 he headed Elcoteq’s largest business area, Terminal Products, and was responsible for strategic accounts. Mr Härkönen has held various production, logistics and purchasing positions in the electronics industry since 1984.

Jan Valcke

Jan Valcke’s resume reads like the history of strong user authentication itself. Mr Valcke was co-founder and member of the board of director of Digiline, the company that developed and marketed the first Digipass strong authentication tokens, back in 1991. From the early start on, Jan Valcke has been one of the architects of VASCO’s leading position as a provider of strong authentication products to the banking world.

Dr. Mohamed Lazzouni
Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Mohamed Lazzouni joined Viisage Technology in November 2002, bringing combined operational and technological skills from nearly two decades of technology companies. He most recently served as president of Nexa Web. Earlier, Dr. Lazzouni was the CTO of the e-commerce division at EMC Corporation. He also co-founded and served as Chief Executive Officer of Irision Solutions and served in the same capacity at SIA Technology.
