“Directly delivered to the citizen in five days – the passport issuing process in Austria”

Since its introduction in June 2006 more than 3 million Austrian citizens have applied for an e-passport. At the same time, a new one-stop-shopping process was implemented. Now, Austrian citizens only need to show up once at the passport authorities to get their new passports directly delivered within five business days. This new service-oriented approach proved to be a key meas-ure for the successful implementation of the e-passport in Austria. The presentation deals with the complex logistical and security challenges which had to be overcome for the successful realization of this project.
